Fri 20th March 09. Hatcha & Crazy D, Caspa and Rossi B & Luca @ Lemon Grove

Killer killer line up for this one! This was a serious step up for The Deep End, moving up to Exeter's largest club venue, The Lemon Grove. We'd done a night there over a year previously with Beats & Bass, Retox & Armada (featuring Benga, Appleblime, Die & Danny Byrd), but this was our first go at it on our own. We totally transformed the venue, covering the place in the deep end's signature black out material and camo netting, and setting up the venue in the opposite way to how most promoters use it, putting the djs in the booth (as opposed to on the stage) and setting up the colossal Neighbourhood Soundsystem to face away from the bar... Pulsar, Double D and I played a novel b2b2b2 set for the first time at a deep end night, laying down loads of original Devon dubplates, including many of Pulsar's latest numbers. Garage legends from way back when, Rossi B & Luca, showed off their turntablist skills, cutting over the finest in garage, grime, bassline and dubstep, and really making their mark on the crowd. Caspa followed them up with a set of pure bangers and mash, blazing out his trademark high octane wobbling basslines to devastating effect! Hatcha & Crazy D, the original dubstep dj & host laid it down as only they do best. Hatcha's jaw-dropping array of the freshest exclusive dubplates & Crazy D's vibes on the mic were impeccable as always (big and smallways!). Thanks to Emily for your help stage managing. I think you saved me some grey hairs that night! A heavy night was had by all. Shame we didn't have quite the numbers in we'd have hoped, but as you can see from the photos, there was definitely more than enough to build a wicked atmosphere in there...
